In some quarters, however, the American work ethic is waning. Some people devote themselves to find ways not to work. Some seem to take a perverse kind of pride in being slipshod or lackadaisical. In many cases, where our work culture has deteriorated, shortsighted government policies share a good part of the blame.

Welfare without work erodes the spirit and the sense of self-worth of the recipient. And it conditions the children of nonworking parents to an indolent and unproductive life. Hardworking parents raise hardworking kids; we should recognize that the opposite is also true. The influence of the work habits of our parents and other adults around us as we grow up has lasting impact.

Mitt Romney, in his autobiography No Apology: The Case For American Greatness.

Oh, now I get it — only moms of means are worthy of praise. Moms who accept public assistance produce indolent kids who lead unproductive lives.

Yeah, I don’t have kids, but I feel pretty good in saying Romney and his faux “mommy war” outrage can kiss off. I love being lectured by a rich guy about welfare in general. It’s not like I actually want a living wage or anything…

Some people devote themselves to find ways not to work.” Such as… investing a massive inheritance and living off the dividends? Yes, some people in America find ways to not work. And as a reward, they don’t have to pay taxes either, because they’re “job creators.” -Jess

Why your girlfriend loves: Jason Segel
“Why your girlfriend loves…” is a continuing series on Style Girlfriend, breaking down the seemingly strange crushes your lady harbors for various male celebs. There’s no use fighting her obsessions, so you might as well steal a few of these fellas’ tricks.
It’s official, Jason Segel is Hollywood’s latest heartthrob. Asking “Wait, huh?” is a totally fair response. After all, the I Love You, Man actor is basically the anti-Clooney  – a leading man without movie star good looks or rakish smile, nary a comic book hero movie to his name. So what is it about Segel that makes your girlfriend’s heart sing? Plenty. Let me break it down for you…(MORE)

If more company leaders followed this example of selflessness instead of being so fucking greedy the economy wouldn’t be so shitty. I mean really, just how much money do you really need to have.

This dude is fucking awesome. \m/

is there an article on this or something?

It’s true. He actually cut his pay down to $90,000 not $100,000.

The story is about 3 years old, but is still poignant.

But he points to corporate culture as the long-term solution. Like the AIG bonuses, Nishimatsu says, “shocked” him. “It’s like they’re from another planet,” he says.

A lesson of this recession, he hopes, will be that corporations don’t solely pursue profit and instead focus on the long-term financial health of the company and employ people and help society. Together with shared sacrifice, he believes, the global economy will recover - but only if everyone from the CEO to the entry-level employee works together.

transsuccess:

Macy’s, the retailer, put specific transgender-related policies, which grant access to fitting rooms and restrooms of transitioning employees’ choice, in place in 2006. “We offered special training in intimate apparel departments for sales associates to help transgender individuals with fittings,” Beth Charlton of Macy’s corporate communications department tells us. “We also have offered training to our store managers, law department, and human resources regarding our transgender policy.” The company has also recruited for transgender employees in its San Francisco stores.  “At every level of our company, we recognize the value that different perspectives bring to our business, and we celebrate the unique characteristics and strengths of each associate.”

Prob one of the only good things the company has ever done
